OpenVMS 8.4 Fresh Installation Step to Step


1.       POWER CYCLE THE SERVER .
(1) FIRST GO TO CONSOL BY ENTERING CO
(2) GO TO COMMAND MENU BY ENTERING CM
(3) FOR POWER CYCLE SELECT PC AS AN OPTION
(4) PRESS C
























      DURING THE POWER CYCLE IS COMPLETE PRESS CTRL+B FOR MP CONSOL MAIN 

      MENU THEN SEE CONSOL BY PRESSING CO
      MONITIOR THE CONSOLE

     AFTER SOMETIME IT WILL ASK FOR BOOT OPTIONS.
     FROM THERE SELECT “S” AS AN OPTION. FOR LUNCHING UEFI


2.      YOU WILL NOW ON THE SHELL PROMPT.


3.       HERE CHECK ON WHICH “FS” REMOVBLE DISK IS CONNECTED. Here in this on “fs2” removable media is connected. You will see USB in the description string for removable media.

4.      TO ENTER INTO FS2: --- WRITE FS2: AS AN COMMAND



5.   NOW GO TO EFI :-- BY ENTERING COMMAND CD EFI (AS LIKE DOS)


6.   NOW GO IN SUB DIR OF EFI (BOOT) :-- BY ENTERING COMMAND CD BOOT


7.     NOW WR BOOTIA64. AND THEN ENTER


8.      THEN INSTAALTATION GET STARTED.
9.    SELECT OPTION “1” FROM THE MENU.



10.  SELECT THE INITIALIZE OPTION



11.     GIVE THE TARGET DISK DKA0.



12. GIVE “NO” ON KEEPING THIS LABEL.
13. ENTER THE LABEL.




14.   SELECT “ODS5” IN THE OPTION .



15.    GIVE “NO” TO ENABLE THE HARD LINK.



16.     GIVE “YES” TO VALIDATE THE BOOT OPTION.



17.  GIVE “YES” TO CREATE OR VALIDATE BOOT OPTION. This will create boot string in EFI for auto booting of the OVMS.



18.    SIMPLY PRESS ENTER ON THE VMS_FLAGS.



19.  GIVE THE PASSWORD TO THE SYSTEM.
20. GIVE “NO”ON THE BECOME THE MEMBER OF THE CLUSTER.



21.   GIVE THE SCSNODE NAME.(REFER THE MIGRATION DOCUMENT)
22.  GIVE “YES” ON THE DO YOU PLAN TO USE THE DECNET.



    23.   GIVE THE DECNET ADDRESS ACCORDINGLY.



   

  24. NOW THE SYSTEM WILL ASK FOR TIME ZONE
  25. SELECT OPTION 5 “ASIA” IN MAIN TIME MENU.




        26.  SELECT OPTION 16 “CALCUTTA” ASIA TIME MENU.

          


      27.  GIVE “NO” TO REGISTER THE LICENSE. We will register license later.
     


28. GIVE “YES” TO INSTALL THE DECWINDOW MOTIF.



 
29.  GIVE “YES” TO ADD THE TCPIP SERVICES.




30.  GIVE “NO” TO THE DETAILED DESCRIPTION.



31.  GIVE “YES” TO DEFAULT FOR ALL OPTION.




32.   GIVE “NO” TO REVIEW THE OPTION.

OVMS Installation will proceed. Once the same is completed, main menu will appear again. Select Option 9 for Shutdown the system.
Reboot the system and it will run Autogen on first boot and will apply the recommendations. Reboot will be performed automatically after autogen is run.
You may face a situation that booting is failing after giving message unable to boot from PKA0.0 or similar message. To correct this, select M or B at the boot options while asked at rebooting. Manually boot the OS by selecting the particular OS Hard disk and then the appropriate boot loader file similar to the way it was done for booting using OVMS DVD. If booting starts successfully, then add a new boot option using the BOOT Menu while starting the system. Also delete the one created during OVMS Installation. Finally change the boot order and put the newly created boot option at the top.
